We’ve got newcomers (Anneta Pinto-Young and Beholding Him Ministries )who joined in !Thank you all for walking this journey with me and those appreciating it!!

Title : Surrounded

The focus in this post is on the woman caught is sin and how Jesus changed her story.Stay with me as we start with the unraveling of my last poetry Quiz about “the woman caught in adultery. “THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING!

Being caught in the act of adultery, guilt and shame silenced her as their accusers brought her to seek judgement.

Sin brings guilt and shame and the victim bows his or head to submit to this partnership.

"Against the law" they shouted.

As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery.

John 8:4

Dragging their victim
In the circle of their words.

They put her in front of the crowd.”( John 8:4)

Awaiting His response,In reply of their judgement. No escape, for it is written!

The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”

John 8:5

But Grace stood up and spoke on her behalf!
silenced every voice.

All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”

John 8:7

The cage of their words is shattered....
one by one the link of conspiracy broke!

When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one…”

John 8:5

And left you alone with Mercy,

until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman.”

John 8: 9

And the testimony written in the dust.

Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.

John 8:8

The Pharisees found something to trap Jesus. They were searching for something to stand as accussers before Him!They used the act of adultery in which the woman was caught,to seek a way that Jesus would speak against the law .That we know!

“Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walketh about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

1 Peter 5:8

What I had always wondered about, since I heard and read this story, is what was Jesus writing on the ground. The Bible does not mention it nor do I get any clue , except for the fact that Jesus was faced with the accusers of this woman, they are solving an adulterous situation and the victim is there with them, in the circle. What a scene! All ears for Jesus’ judgement!

Things I’ve learned from this story

When analyzing the poen, I noticed how the verses were shifted and my eye got hooked on the last line :” testimony written in the dust “.

Jesus turned the accusations against her into a testimony

This made me think: Jesus was actually dealing with the legal case(ground) the Pharisees found against the woman and tried to pin it on Him.

We’ve been set free , because through Jesus all our sins were pinned on the cross and were buried with Him.

Everything was set up: a court case! The accusers , the accused, the judge and the jury were present.Did I leave something out? Oh, the evidence and those testifying against her!And make no mistake; they had a legal case here!Ready with the punishment in their hands!

Sin gives a legal ground for our enemy to testify against us and find a way to accuse us before God.It must first be dealt with ; therefore we should be awake and discerning.

“for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”

Revelation 12:10

Oh , but the Judge!Merciful and Kind! They left the outcome of her destiny in the hands of Jesus, the author of her life. What did they aspect? For the One who sets free to condemn?!

Jesus changed her narrative

What they meant for her downfall and death, Jesus used for her deliverance!

I believe that her heart was touched and her perception of God changed as she was set free. She left the scene delivered, changed and with a new direction.

Kindness and Mercy replaced guilt and fear and introduced her to Purpose .

So, I just turned my poetry into a quick bible study! I gained so much revelation and insight and now all that is left, is application and prayer.

Insights I gained from this study:

This reminds me of a true story of a born again christian woman who had an affair with the husband of another woman.Adultery! The other woman went to a warlock and paid him to kill her husband’s lover. The christian lady was totally unaware of this attack on her life! When he heard that this was a Christian, it was a great deal for him and he planned all his rituals and waited for this woman’s death any day.But nothing happened! And when the woman angrily contacted Him, He told her that her God commanded him to leave her alone.Even though this lady was guilty of adultery,God’s grace was still there for her to turn from her sin.

  • Their is a constant battle for our souls and God has the final say!
  • Our adversary is always looking for a way to destroy man
  • He uses Guilt and Shame to silence the victim
  • Satan cannot bypass God as judgement belongs to Him.( Job’s case)
  • Jesus spoke on behalf of the guilty one…He roars over us and the enemy retreats.

Thank you for taking an interest in reading and for your comments! Hope that this will touch your heart as much as it touched mine!

  1. This is an amazing story of the redemptive power of Jesus Christ to forgive and restore. β€˜He that is without sin,’ is what we should remember before we cast judgement. We still operate like some sins are larger than others and try to heap condemnation unto others. But for the grace of God. πŸ™πŸΎ

  2. Indeed this was a deep dive into the deep knowledge of the story of this woman.
The bible says mercy triumps over judgement.
Indeed the accuser had a case, a strong one but where mercy takes over judgment submits.
I like the last words ….go your way and sin more.
I believe the accusers were restrained from hurting the woman so that she can have a second chance …
    John 3:17

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. God

  3. When I teach this lesson, I like to ask who and where was the male…the man who had also been β€˜caught in the act’ with this woman?? Why wasn’t he brought forward to be stoned as well. I often wonder if Jesus may have been scribbling the names of the man/men who had secretly been involved with this woman. Is that why the older men slipped away…one by one??

    1. Yes! He was probably standing there with the accusers. It gives me a peek into the current era we’re living in, How man does the same today……walking away and blaming all on women….leaving them with all the responsibility….(of course not all men.)
What also caught my eye was that the men slipped away (beginning with the oldest)
