The characteristics of a practical person

Winning with power punches

1.Introduction

It was during the Desember holidays last year , that I sat down during the weekend with my prayer journal, to plan my schedule for the upcoming week .More importantly;to make an enquiry about my prayer times .It was a short and simple prayer:

Father,
I bring before You my intended prayer schedule for my upcoming week and ask that You adapt and align it according to Your divine times.Let me move in Your times.I seal these times of prayer and ask that You bless me during these times, strengthening me through prayer and Your word.In Jesus name.Amen.

I finished it with the following billboard in my journal and meditated on the benefits of this scripture (Ephesians 1:3-14)

In Christ Jesus we are:

  • Blessed with all spiritual blessings
  • Chosen to be holy and without blame
  • Predestined
  • Adopted as sons
  • Accepted in the Beloved
  • Redeemed through His blood, according to the riches of His grace
  • Forgiven of your sins
  • Given wisdom and understanding of His will
  • Given an inheritance
  • To bring praise and glory to God
  • Sealed with the Holy Spirit
  • Guaranteed of inheritance until your redemption is fulfilled

I’ve been taught that the simple and practical things can be full of impact and can stand against the heavy blows of our enemy. In this post I will be writing about how Holy Spirit explained to me a certain level of wisdom and how it impacted my life and the territories .

Wisdom gives us practical advice on how to enlarge our tents.

I first received the word “Practical” ,put it on the pages of my journal, pondered on it and then dived into scripture looking for clues.A simple word turned into a treasure hunt .With every clue I found, I knew I was on to something, and soon a picture of a tent appeared in my mind.

Let’s take a look at the word: Practical

The Merriam Webster dictionary describes it as the actively engaging in some course or action.

The word” practise” is related to the term practical and this reminded me of James 1 : 22

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

I’ve experienced that when I receive a word from Holy Spirit and put it into practise or write about it, it expands and I then see the how it become enlarged;therefore by  putting an idea  or scripture into practise brings enlargements.

Practical people expands to make room for more

Enlarge the place of your tent,
 stretch your tent curtains wide,
 do not hold back;
lengthen your cords,
 strengthen your stakes.”(Isaiah 54:2)

Practical people rejects smallness

And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.(Numbers 13:40)

Joshua and Caleb, two of the twelve spies, carried the same report ; but they reported at a different angle- from the angle of faith and hope.

Practical people silence the voice of the enemy

Caleb stepped forward in wisdom silenced them ,overruled their negativity ; changing the scene of the enemy’s plan and reminded the people to trust and of God’s intended plan to bless them.

At the verge of breakthrough , even those amongst us will testify negatively !

All this also comes from the Lord Almighty,
whose plan is wonderful,
whose wisdom is magnificent.(Isaiah 28:29)

Practical people are in agreement with God

Joshua and Caleb, amongst the twelve spies, were in agreement with God and in reporting back in the same positive voice.

Practical people are not afraid to take risks

Joshua and Caleb, inspite of the evidence and threats, motivated the people to possess the land that was promised by God.

Practical people are innovative

Is wood ever taken from it to make anything useful?Do they make pegs from it to hang things on?(Ezekiel 15:3)

Practical people surrounds themselves with wise counsel

Choose some wise, understanding and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will set them over you.” Deuteronomy 1 :13

Practical people are far sighted

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice”(Matthew 7:24)

Practical wisdom gives us the ability to look beyond our present challenges , to adjust the angle of our gaze at the unseen so we can stay secure on the seat of hope .

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.(2 Corinthians 4:18)

A practical person loves to ask for the will of the Father and apply it accordingly , whether it is for work related matters, family or everyday choices.

Do you lack wisdom? Just ask…

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.( James 1:5)
