6 CAUSES OF SPIRITUAL DISORIENTATION

1.Introduction

From early November I battled with carelessness, a dip in my mental health, and concentration issues.

How to battle spiritual disorientation

This time at school becomes a rollercoaster and the pressure is high due to exams and one simply can’t lose focus during these concluding moments of a kingdom assignment. And at first, I reckon that my work issues could be the reason for my mental state, but I soon recognized the clues the Holy Spirit gave me during the early mornings of prayer journaling, and whilst putting on the armor of God.

Earlier this year we were heading home after a weekend visit with some family members. On our way, we made a quick stop at a shop and returned to the car only to realize I did not have my bank card in my wallet.

I ran back into the shop….looked inside the car….nothing!Later that week my husband cleaned the car and found it lying between the seats where I was sitting!

2.The power in words

Was this just coincidence?

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Proverbs 18:21

When I started to experience attacks of disorientation, I and my daughter had our usual prayer journal recap and we found that we experienced similar attacks. As we review aspects and situations the Holy Spirit made us aware of and we remembered the lost bank card saga and suddenly revelation struck us!

Even though people do not always realize or mean this, they might be sending out wrongful words or attitudes towards certain areas of a person’s life.

One time or another situations of fear, strive or a lack of wisdom might find their way into our territories and start to cause a stir.It helps if you identify the signs as soon as possible to reverse their effect through prayer strategies.

3.Scriptural basis

I’ve learned to find a scriptural basis for my dreams, discernment, and even for experiences.

3.1Extrinsic factors

1.Jealousy and strife

James 3:16
“For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.”

I’ve experienced jealousy and strive to be the most common factor for confusion either in the workplace itself or in certain areas of the workplace. I also found that jealousy and strife have fuel helping it to take the flames higher and this fuel is called gossip and dishonesty!

A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends.

Proverbs 16:24

3. 2Intrinsic factors

To stand during times of confusion and wandering, takes to be grounded in God’s word. In times like these, you just trade your fears and anxiety with the promises of God

2.Fear and a lack of self controle

2 Timothy 1:7″
Dor God gave us a spirit not of fear but power and love and self-control.”

3.A lack of wisdom

John 16:13
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.”

4.Not relying on the word of God

John 16:33
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

5.A lack in diligence in prayer

Matthew 7:7
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

6. Relying on self

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your understanding”

Proverbs 5:3

4.Territories

The above-mentioned factors can either cause a stir :

  • In the territory itself, like your workplace, home, business, your family, marriage, finances, etc.
  • In your thought patterns with uncertainty and confusion
  • In your relationship with God– drifting you away from Him

This is not the first time and certainly not the last that I will be experiencing the effect of disorientation, but now I am being made aware of it and trained by the Holy Spirit.

Most importantly, you must first discern in what territory and also which spiritual area is being affected.

Spiritual focus

Spiritual memory

Spiritual balance

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly ”

John 10:10

To gain territory gives our adversary a legal right, therefore it will always try to find a doorway.

In the spirit realm, whoever possesses the gate controls the territory. Possessing your gates means to be in control of your life and not letting in any other manipulation accept the truth and guidance of God.

A right of admission prayer plan for a young disciple

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

6. Conclusion

Finally, whatever situation you might face gratitude will be our GPS instrument redirecting and orientation us again, making you surface and breath. Sometimes circumstances around us can be overwhelming, disorientating us, and then, just like Peter, we might lose our focus. Disorientation tries to drown our hope and even our courage, but gratitude makes it resurface.

Resurface with gratitude!
