The importance of progress in life

Progress is a crucial element in all areas of one’s life. Sometimes progress will be noticeable, but there are times when progress works as an undercover agent. Progress gives me the evidence and confidence to say: I’m getting there!

“Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 3:13-14

To press on requires strength, perseverance, resistance against the opposition, direction, and a faithful heart. Sometimes when storms disturb life, we will be guided by the Holy Spirit to persevere or to camp out for a while to refresh, to gain new strength, and to refocus.

“And I am sure that God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in His grace until His task within you is finally finished on that day when Jesus Christ returns.”

(Philippians 1:6)

I started this faith journey, with prayer journaling, when the pandemic breaks out, getting up every morning, sowing seeds in prayer, taking up the Armor of God, receiving new strength and strategies , gaining new divine knowledge, and searching scripture. When I brainstormed with the Holy Spirit, I was taught about topical or theme word studies. I did not question God, I followed and trusted Him for He knows the plans He has for me.

“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

To press on also requires diligence

• Diligence has an appearance
• It has an inward attitude
• Diligence does not show off
• It does not moan or complain
• It is humble and focuses on the task
• It is not boastful
• Eager to explore new areas
• Diligence does not wait for assistance…it is an initiator
• Diligence prepares the place for teamwork
• It sets a clean and driven atmosphere in the sphere of work, whether earthly or spiritually.
• It is consistent
• Its focus is not on the reward but on the quality of its work presented.
• Diligence honors the master
• Diligence honors God
• areas where  diligence is needed

What is spiritual progress?

The process of development and growth, of special importance in the life of believers. Scripture stresses the importance of progress, both of the individual believer and the church, and the need to work towards that goal. (Bible Gateway)

“This work is being done with diligence and is making progress in their hands. ”

(Ezra 5:8)

He sets me upon my high places.

Psalm 18:33

What to do when no progress is seen?

Yes, sometimes we reach a stage in life where we feel: I’m not moving forward, or when we feel stuck. These are the times to engage with the Holy Spirit to discern what is happening and to receive instructions or answers. I harvest from the seeds I have sown and I pick up my manna basket every morning.

We choose to believe in God’s promises, even when we do not see immediate evidence.

We stay focused during the waiting phase, for we know it is not by might but by His Spirit.

Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.

Zechariah 4:6

We know that life is also spiritual and that God is working supernaturally in all circumstances we bring before Him.

Writing about my journey and sharing it is also a great blessing for me. It makes my journey focus and I give the Holy Spirit another platform to transform and teach me. I have been tremendously blessed by God through prayer journaling. By reaping the rewards in diligent sowing I gained mental- and spiritual progress.
