Possessing the gates of your day

The impact of prayer journaling on my day

Our days start with morning as a gate to the rest of our day. Whatever the title of this post may be, it is with the focus on generating a powerful morning routine, owning your mornings; powerful enough to keep you going and to bulldoze any obstacle in the way of your kingdom assignment.

I read something in a wonderful post by a fellow blogger, Ashok, and something about the morning part grabbed me. Of course, the whole article is of great value though, but this part emphasized the value of our mornings. I’m so overwhelmed by God’s grace and hope that I bring justice in presenting this. We all have different morning routines, but I want to divide my morning into different sections:

1.My quiet time and fellowship with God

I had this question in my mind and I kept asking the Holy Spirit about the value of getting up at 5 am in morning. I saw all the videos on YouTube and the beautiful articles on Pinterest. But sometimes people seek their own confirmation, revelation, and experience. I did! I kept waking up before my alarm and when I checked the time, it was 5 am! After I popped my question and waited, I received my answer with an experience! You can read more about it πŸ‘‰. Results of a powerful morning routine

I would like to hear from you!

How do you create and maintain a power morning routine?

From time to time I’m still adding more of this and that, depending on the mood the Holy Spirit create or made me aware of. I must say, my mornings are not always the same, because I cannot follow my own routine; rather I have to ask the Holy Spirit about my morning routine activities. I know it may seem strange, but I know from experience that trusting God is important. The discipline of engaging to Him by Asking ,is biblical.

Activities to engage with when waking up early

Sometimes I feel the urgency to go into prayer straight away, then I skip this part for later.

  • Put on the full armor of God

Never! I never step into prayer and my day without the full armor of God. It was one of the first journal activities I did a visual study on and a VIP item in my spiritual treasure chest. You can doodle it !

  • Start PRAYER JOURNALING: Journal your prayers

With journaling, there are many ways to present your prayers to God. This idea I got from a grade 4 learner during Journal Class. She wrote her prayers and inserted them into little envelopes. If you’re interested in prayer journal craft, you can read more about it here.

  • Command your morning with word declarations. Prepare a journal entry with related Scripture and declare them over your day, work, and loved ones.

  • Try visual bible studies

A Visual Bible study is a combination of doodling, keywords, scriptures, and prayer. Here are some keys to try out a visual Bible study:

2.Preparing and getting ready for work/daily activities

It is necessary to live a balanced life and to make time for others and the kingdom assignments God has given to us. Jesus did.

He set a consistent example for us, praying very early in the morning(dawn) and sometimes through the night before he stepped into His day to fulfill his kingdom assignment.

We need this prayer power to be prepared for our day ahead. Our days can be really challenging sometimes, therefore we need to submit to God before heading into our day.

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

Mark 1:35

This time refers to the biblical watch , Dawn ( 3am – 6am).

Things that takes first place in our mornings rather than God

As I’m writing this section before concluding, and I’m still guilty of some of these things, I visualize how a few very eager time consumers await us, pushing each other to reach us first.

Just to mention a few:

  • Going through mail
  • Unfinished work-related issues
  • Newspapers
  • News
  • Watching television programs
  • Maybe starting on some chores
  • Spending time on social media
  • Workouts
  • To-do lists

Conclusion

Attending to certain areas or activities in the morning is also necessary, but ought not to be our first portion. Our first portion belongs to God. Him first! I usually turn my power walk into a prayer walk. When stretching and cooling down, I sometimes turn on worship and meditate on God’s promises.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
