One of the main reasons children cannot learn optimally in school is due to distractions in the classroom. These distractions then cause them to fall behind in their education and most eventually fail their grade.

Distractions can have multiple effects on mankind in different areas of life, but the one aim of it is to drag a person from what he or she intended to do; to cause a setback or delay, or to take a person’s focus was from a task. Research shows that distraction is the main culprit that pulls people away from a task and causes it longer to complete.

Definition

Distraction is something that takes your attention away from what you're supposed to be doing. (Vocabulary.com)

Every person on earth has a purpose to fulfill and by looking at the definition of a distraction, a person is being kept from that purpose. Not having purpose is the main reason most suicides happen, especially amongst the younger generation.

Meaning of prefix(dis)

 indicating negation, lack, or deprivation

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world, the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes, and the boasting of what he has and does–comes not from the Father but the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

(John 2:15-17)

According to the research of two Harvard psychologists, the real problem isn’t our chaotic environment, it’s our minds. (Inc.)

The impact of distractions

Distractions usually cause a ripple effect and not only slows down an individual but also the group, assignment, or company.

It hinders productivity and directs optimal performance to minimal. Then people ask themselves at the end of the day: What did I achieve today?

How prayer journaling can help to stay focused

Prayer journaling is not just about writing down your thoughts and feelings. It is supposed to be an altar where we can communicate with God and He with us, a place to find comfort and direction. Without the word of God, Prayer journaling is powerless and ineffective. It is through the scripture in journal Bible studies that we find strategies and answers steering us to step into God’s plans for our lives.

  • Prayer journaling helps us to be mindful
  • Journaling takes us to a quiet place where we can engage meaningfully
  • Through scripture writing, we find time to soak in the word of God and to meditate on it.
  • The accountability that comes with prayer journaling helps you to stay on track.
  • Through journaling, it becomes easier to track the progress of the areas you struggle with.
  • Prayer journaling allows us to lean in on the word of God, His plans, and align our minds accordingly. If we walk according to the plans and purpose of God, we are not distracted.
  • Through prayer journaling, God can communicate to us about our kingdom assignments and also gives us a strategy to pray

I found that much focus is needed when prayer journaling because I need to yield my ear to hear the promptings of the Spirit of God.

Taking breaks

When I write petitions or urgent requests it is important, I experienced, whether or when to take a break. These prayers can be up to 10 pages long and you need to keep aligned with the Holy Spirit. Taking inappropriate moments to get a cup of coffee or adhere to anything else, can distract the flow and direction of your prayer. When it is quite urgent, I usually make a note to follow up easily and as I go into something else, my mind does not wander off. I find a piece to meditate on to kickstart writing again.

Location

Location can be key. It depends on what time of the daily prayers are prepared to present unto God. Prayer journaling is building an altar of prayer that is rewarding and pleasing to God.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
