A Topic Prayer Journal Week

Introduction

What started as just jotting down a few thoughts or an ordinary prayer exploded into a book of radiant warfare strategies, hope, encouragement, comfort, the art of endurance...and so much more. This is my journey with the Lord guiding me uniquely through His Holy Spirit leading me to places of rest, but also areas I tried to avoid. My winning acres are creativity and writing, and they became the areas most influenced by the Lord. My prayer journal became a get-away with Jesus, an altar of a breakthrough, and where I found some of my prayer strategies. Prayer strategies are critical in times of confronting intense adversity.

“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3: 8

Shifting in the direction of the Spirit

Although I get down on my knees and pray or pace up and down in my room declaring God’s Word, I still prefer to experience the quiet time’s prayer journaling in the early mornings, experiencing the counseling of the Spirit of God, searching through scripture and pinning down my prayers.

The Spirit of the Lord is constantly advancing us into new levels or areas to teach us the endless mercies of our God.We must not expect to follow the same weekly – or daily routine if we are born of the Spirit. Expect change!

Ideas to try out a topic prayer journal week.

1.Ask the Holy Spirit for a suitable topic

You can just randomly choose a topic for the week or you can ask The Spirit of God who knows God’s plans for us, our adversity, and even the plans hidden in their hearts. How did I find my topic to pray on? I was just following my prayer journey like any other week when at the end of the week my eyes were drawn to the doodles I’ve made throughout the week: Arrows. I realized that these are clues to complete a puzzle. And indeed, these ordinary doodles were the main clues!

You can check out How to do a Visual Bible Study here.

2.Gather all applicable scriptures

I picked up another clue: to find and write down all the scriptures about Arrows.

You will not be afraid of the terror by night, or the arrows that flies by day.

Psalm 91:5

3.Rewrite scripture before praying or create a doodle arrow

Rewriting scripture before jumping into prayer is an effective strategy to prepare our heart before God, strengthened and we are not empty-handed. Thursday is my favorite doodling day. The Holy Spirit advised me to choose this ideal scripture to celebrate my warfare and to visualize the impact of the arrows of the Lord on my adversary’s basecamp.

4.Launching your prayers

With all the pieces gathered I pull out all my arrows and aim them during prayer every day, trusting that the angels of the Lord are waring alongside me. As most believers are in a season of spiritual warfare, I am in the same season and have to ask God for strategies to break through the enemy’s lines. One of my weapons to fight with is prayer journaling, and not just ordinary journaling writing down your thoughts and prayer. The Holy Spirit prompts me to shift between journaling activities constantly.

5.Gratitude

Although I know the process is still running I give praise and honor to my General for a successful week .

  1. Some time ago, I read a book by James Goll and it was on journaling. Thanks for confirming something I read in James’ book. There is really a multitude of ways to use journaling. Your take is definitely an interesting one. For me, it is in the form of an ongoing dialog between my Fatherr and me. I am also recalling something I read in James’ book and you probably know it. Spiritual journaling is not a “discipline” as we’d call it. Rather, it is to be viewed as a priviledge or an open opportunity to enjoy dialoging with the Holy Spirit. If I see journaling as a discipline then I’m getting the sense of duty or “must do”. Priviledge says I want to and it is seen as a delight.

    1. I certainly have to get this book. Thank you! Journaling becomes our open heaven! As my prayers are activated it means that there is non-stop activity of the angels working on my behalve. There so much more to journaling. And I know God inspired us in different ways! Would be interesting to learn from other prayer warriors.
      God bless🌼
