Revelational journaling

How God uses journaling to speak to us.

When I became a young follower of Christ, God immediately aligned me with a mentor. What made me very curious was how to hear God speak to me and how I could tell that it is Him.

I learned with time that God can speak to us in various and unique ways. And one of these ways, I found is journaling! It’s amazing how I can track the growth of my spiritual development and the lessons I’ve learned from the Spirit of the Lord.

Discernment

1 Thessalonians 21-22

21 But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;

Discernment is a gift or ability from the Spirit of God enabling us to know the hidden things and also the evil schemes of our adversary, to know right from wrong.

Prayer journaling is something that we initiate and God honors our attempts by revealing His thoughts, plans, and even warnings to us.

Prayer journaling can never be done without the gift of discernment and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. If this is the case, it is a journal without revelations. There are different ways of how God uses the journal platform to reach out to us.

1.The banner of my entry

After dividing my page into sections, I start with the header of my page. I usually start designing with an idea or image given by the Spirit of God.

The theme created through the header creates the mood and angle of my prayers throughout the week. It directs my prayers, creates excitement, and increasing my faith.

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable  things you do not know.’

Jeremiah 33

2.Scripture doodles

Prayer journaling is intentional in true situations, challenges, and outcomes. It is based on :

  • Daily experiences
  • Issues at work
  • Family or social matters
  • Faith
  • Spiritual development
  • Spiritual warfare
  • Love for God
  • Crying out to God
  • Disciplining yourself
  • Finding true identity

Early one morning, when I was in spiritual warfare the Holy Spirit mysteriously led me to Exodus 15. I jotted down the song of Moses and Miriam in my prayer journal and as I meditated on this particular scripture, it formed a word image seen in the image above. Later during that week, I was prompted to utter these words as a prayer, and by doing this; the powerful hand of God started to move, pulling off the cover of those scheming and plotting in our town.

Conclusion

There are so many revelations to share since I started with prayer journaling. My prayer life exploded into a spectrum of different colors.Through a new perspective on prayer I cannot wait until my next journal entry or revelation.

Blessed journaling.
