Journaling: Guided by the Spirit of God

The benefits of prayer journaling

I’ve read many articles about journaling and very few spoke about how God uses it as a powerful weapon in our hands.Yes, many other benefits add to the value of journaling;but in a prayer journal some elements combine to create a powerful formula of prayer.

Before we can dive into another dimension, we first have to know the basics of journaling.

Basics of journaling Part 1

Basics of journaling Part 2

Oblivious versus Discernment

I cannot write anything else before discussing the mind of the believer, the battlefield where our enemy launches his missiles and try to confuse us. We have a constant thought life and we’re sometimes so ignorant, not taking notice of what is really happening around us.

A colleague of mine had an encounter while busy with her daily activities at school when suddenly the word ” oblivious ” popped up. She felt strongly that the Lord was speaking to her,  so she prayed about it. The Spirit of God, our Helper, prompted her to be more  aware of her surroundings and to discern the schemes of our adversary as well as the outcomes provided by God.

John 4:16

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

When we prayerfully enter in journalling, we open up our hearts and mind to God and attentively write down the words that came to our spirit. For this reason, I choose to journal when quiet and all other voices are silenced so God’s voice can be heard and understood.

The benefits of mindfulness

Journaling is a special skill and sometimes has many hidden messages. It should have, just like the Word of God. No one is suspecting it, just to be hit right between the eyes!

Romans 11:34-35

Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”
“Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay them?

1.Mindfulness provides the link between your answers in prayer and the prompts of the Spirit of God.

2.Every lettering and doodling have hidden messages, trying to warn or inform us.

I once sat down and started journaling, writing down my prayers, praising God, when I suddenly felt the urge to draw feet at the bottom. The next morning I felt prompted to do the same doodle. When I was busy making coffee my mind pondered on what I just prayed about and something clicked as I started to put on the armor of God while waiting. The enemy is targeting my readiness for the gospel.

Ephesians 6:12

For we do not wrestle
against flesh and blood
but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers
of the darkness
of this age, against spiritual hosts of
wickedness in the heavenly places.

3.When staying vigilant, we can rarely be caught off guard.

4.We are being delivered from evil schemes, sometimes without suspecting anything.

5.We can easily identify the messages of God and His ways.

The war is real .

Prayer journaling is an act of faith, therefore we are led by the Spirit of God hovering above every situation, waiting for our prayer commands to move into action in our behalve.
