POETRY : What children have to say about 2020

Every week grade 7 learners have a poetry session and I had to choose a catchy theme for the week. School can sometimes be very uneventful and these sessions are like offering sweets to children. while preparing we go outside to breathe in the fresh air and experience the outside to stimulate creativity.

I was quite fascinated with the post of Bobby Carnes that I decided to make it our theme . You can read her post here:

2020:The Year That Got Cancelled

Theme:Icebreaker

* Writing six-word sentences about current theme.

* Groups of 5 join to combine a poem with their sentences, rearranging them before they present.

Learners enjoyed it very much and we all had a good laugh.

Brainstorming session

Poetry can be fun and easy for some learners, but others can find it complex and struggle to find an angle.

During brainstorming, all ideas combine and divert to individuals as they grasp a clue or angle to start with.It is in these sessions that their poetic senses are activated.

Presentation

I found this poem quite interesting:

2020:The year that got canceled

By Mikayla Cloete

Everyone was confused

Because some was abused

Humans were crying

Animals dying

What are we supposed to do?

Lives of people ripped apart

Because of COVID 19 start

Birthdays were funerals

Homeless and no food

Emotions and non-mood

2020 , can we get our year back,

We do beg.

Until next time💗
