Encounters

The importance of fellowship

Fellowship can be defined as shared activities with people of the same type or interests.

Through fellowship we realize, discover , grow , learn to share and love , release , heal , learn skills , listen , communicate , laugh … and so much more.

When I was a freshman at college , I was very fortunate to be part of a group who met every Friday evening to fellowship around God’s word through bible reading , songs, games and just mingling .I felt that I belong amongst them because we had the same interests.

It was during this fellowship one night , after meeting to pray as students, that I had my first encounter with God.While we were having coffee , the other students were sharing encounters and talked about heaven and hell.I just sat there and listen and suddenly , in my silence and in the middle of their conversation , the Lord spoke to me.I had a deep realization that these topics were a reality and that I had to choose. At this point I called myself a Christian and went to church regularly , but I was not born again as Jesus taught Nichodemes.

John 3

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?

Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you,  unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

During my first two years from home I strongly depended on the fellowship of my friends .It gave me a sense of security and belonging , a save place.

We council each other in need during times of a broken heart or difficulties young people go through.

What is important during fellowship of young people ?

  • Each member should be able to be him or herself.
  • Handle peer pressure not to loose your own identity.
  • Look out for each other , be helpful.
  • Sometimes friends can harm your feelings during fellowship without even realizing it.
  • Say you are sorry.
  • Cherish your friendship.

I made it through college partly because of my friends.I still cherish their friendships and keep in my heart all the encounters and life lessons.

  1. You had make the right choice of being a part of this fellowship during your time at college. Many people would have totally shift their values and do as they feel. God bless you, may other be encouraged to do the same when they enter college
Encounters are real. Remember Isaiah the prophet had an encounter with God and said woe is me for i am undone I am a man of unclean lips and dwell among a people of unclean lips.
